This is a 1930s evening gown / dress made in a full length black crepe with large cap sleeves made of lace, supported by millinery type “horsehair” at the top.  The bottom of this 1930s evening gown is finished with a 16” lace panel, weighted by, again, millinery horsehair, over the crepe fabric.  I think that the crepe is silk based, given its weight - it’s possibly rayon, but I’m definitely leaning towards silk.  The dress has a beautiful line due to some tucks at the centre back and also by it being cinched by the matching belt and given the lace detailing.  It has a high, straight across the neck neckline and an open square back (see photo).  The dress has a zipper closure at the left side back.  It is unlined.

Age: 1930s

Label: No label

Material: As mentioned, crepe, probably silk, beautiful quality, wonderful texture and movement / lace

Sizing: No size is indicated, and although this 1930s evening gown should fit a medium to large size, please note the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders:  16” across shoulder/sleeve seams

Bust:  37”

Waist:  31” around uncinched

Hips:  38”

Length:  57”, measured flat

Condition: This 1930s evening gown is in very good condition - a couple of tiny “picks” in the fabric, but otherwise, very clean, looks like it saw little use and was well stored over the years.

This is a fabulous 1930s evening gown - beautiful fabric, interesting lace sleeves, gorgeous style, sophisticated and classy!
